Examples of fate

An example of fate is when Mercutio dies and as he dies says “A plague on both your houses” and in the end Romeo and Juliet die. This is an example of fate because in those times curses were believed to have an impact on their lives. Romeo was a montague and Juliet was a Capulet. Those were the two houses.

    This is good, Seyi.

Another point is that – even if we don’t believe in things like curses – it’s yet another pointer provided by Shakespeare to the inevitability of Romeo and Juliet (and Tybalt’s) ultimate death.

We’re thinking about this in lots of ways:

    1) How the audience at the time might have seen the play
    2) What Shakespeare intended
    3) What we take from it personally
    4) How it could be re-interpreted in modern times

This makes answering fully quite complicated. You’re doing well.
